Do you have neck and shoulder tension? Are you perpetually cold even in July? Do you have shoulder tension BECAUSE you’re so cold? Do you wish you could freaking escape winter already? Boy oh boy, is this one for you.
Me? I suffer from all of these which is why I’m not only wearing my Heat Pack, but also, I’m sitting 2 feet in front of the fireplace while I type.
For real tho.
So, let’s get right to it so we can warm you right out of your misery.
REQUIREMENTS:
Seams Right Design Neck & Shoulder Heat Pack Pattern
⅜ yard Cotton or Linen Fabric
7 1/2 cups of Filler (Rice, Flax or Corn)
Relaxing Essential Oil (Lavender, Peppermint, etc)
Funnel (Could be a taped piece of paper)
Matching thread
FABRIC CONSIDERATIONS:
100% Cotton or Linen (these fibers that can handle hundreds of trips to the microwave)
Woven is best but a LOW stretch knit is fine too
Softer fabrics like flannel will feel nice by your skin
PREPARING YOUR PATTERN & FABRIC
Pattern: Print both pages and then place page 1 over page 2 aligning the dotted line and tape together. Trim along the outer line.
Fabric: With your fabric already folded in half (selvages together), fold in half again like in the diagram to create 2 folds on the same edge. This way you can cut both pieces at once! #selffive
DIRECTIONS:
1. After preparing fabric, place pattern on fabric so the straight edge is aligned with the double folded edge. Cut around but DO NOT CUT OFF THE FOLD!
2. Using a fabric marking tool of some kind to draw both Shoulder Stitch Lines on the RIGHT SIDE one piece of fabric.
3. Place and pin fabric RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER and sew around at ⅜”, similar to the picture, leaving a 3” OPENING for turning and filling. Flip RIGHT SIDE OUT.
4. Measure 1 3/4 cups of your filler choice and add a few drops of your desired essential oil. Fill the first section with the 1 3/4 cups prepared filling.
5. Pin a barrier to your filling back fr
om the Shoulder Stitching Line, similar to the picture, to keep the filling in place during sewing. Stitch across the shoulder line to secure (make sure to support the weight of the filled side).
6. Repeat for the second section.
7. For the center section prepare 4 cups of filling with essential oils and fill.
8. Turn in the opening seam allowance and pin into place for closing. Stitch across the opening close to the edge (~⅛”).
9. Done!
TO USE:
Microwave for 3-4 minutes and take a deep, relaxing breath, ahhhhh.
As your essential oil smell fades you can add a drop or two on the fabric!
